The Swim Triathlon and The Duathlon events for both age groups will start together at the HUB at Hans Bay at 1.30pm – your bike must be placed in the Bike rack by 1pm, and you must attend the race briefing at the HUB at 1.20pm.  There will be a prizegiving at the Regent Theatre Hokitika, Weld Street, 5pm.
  3. The Major spot prize is a bike- the winner of this will be drawn at the prizegiving using the numbers that you were given – so please make sure that you return your number to the information tent when you finish your race. You must be present at the prizegiving to be eligible for this spot prize.
  4. There will be Marshals on the course to direct you, and lifesavers on the water, and medical personnel at the HUB.  All these people will wear High Viz vests. – contact them if you need help.
  5. The intersection of Sunny Bight and Lake Kaniere Rd is the turn point for 7- 10-year-old cyclists, and the turn point for 11 – 13-year-old Runners.  As the road is not closed during this event there could be vehicles approaching this intersection at the time you want to turn. To ensure your safety STMS and Traffic Control Marshals will be in place at this corner who will direct you – You must obey instructions given by event staff on all parts of the course – failure to do so will result in disqualification.  The Road is open so please listen and watch for instruction at these locations.
  6. Ensure you wear clothing appropriate for the weather – e.g. Wetsuit if cold water and sunscreen for all competitors and have plenty of water to drink. This is your responsibility.
  7. The roads will not be closed to traffic during this event – this means there is a risk of you being hit by a vehicle, so be careful and obey ALL ROAD RULES. Be Safe.
  8. Or Safety reasons Parents are requested not to follow their children in cars on the run and cycle courses, or to assist their children in the transition zone – (Marshals will help them to rack their bikes)
  9. There is one chute at the HUB that you must run through after every leg of the triathlon or Duathlon   to get your time recorded. This applies whether you are competing as an individual or in a team.
  10. If you are in a team, you must tag your teammate’s hand after you run through the chute.

Swimmers–Make sure you can swim the required distance. If you get too tired and cannot complete the swim – tread water and raise one hand in the air to tell the lifeguards you need help – they will rescue you, – or you can walk in the water so long as it is up to your chest. If you exit the water before the finish of the swim and enter the timing chute you will be disqualified. If you walk in the water, instead of swim, you will be disqualified. All Swimmers MUST wear a bright colored bathing cap, so you are visible in the water.

The lake is open to the public during this event so if a motorboat enters the water near to where you are swimming   – you will hear three short blasts of the starter horn – this means you must return to shore immediately.  Lifeguards will escort you to the shore.

CyclistsYou must collect your bike from the bike rack for the cycle stage and return it to the bike rack before you enter the chute to have your time recorded.  Marshals will help you to rack your bike. To ensure your safety cyclists must stay on the left side of the road, obey ALL NZTA traffic rules, wear a helmet, pass other cyclists carefully, and do not wear headphones. There will be a cone on the road which signals where you must turn and return to Hans Bay. Marshals will be in place at these turns to direct you. There is a steep downhill section at the end of the bike course with speed humps near the finish line – so take care.

Runners must run on the Right-hand side of the road.  Marshals will advise you where to turn – be aware of the steep downhill section towards the end of the race – run through the timing chute to have your time recorded.
